Bangalore Airport to close for 2.5 Months for Runway Upgrade

Due to the Bangalore Airport Runway Upgrade, the Kempegowda Airport will suspend all operations between 10:30 AM to 5.30 PM every day from Feb 19′ 2017 to Apr 30′ 2017.

This alarming move to passengers comes after a proposal to build rapid exit taxiways (RET’s). Bangalore Airport, despite being the third busiest airport in the country currently has only one operating runway . You may have noticed this when you see the huge line of flights awaiting clearance for takeoff . The preference is always given for landing than takeoff.

10.30 AM to 5.30 PM is technically a calm period with respect to flight timings (as most flights are either early mornings or late evenings/nights). However the Bangalore Airport Runway upgrade could impact several thousand travelers as they may have preferred to fly during this time to save  on ticket prices.

Load Factor in Bangalore Airport

The load factor on the evening and night flights will more than double, given the non operation of earlier flights. This means ticket prices from Bangalore sector to all cities will shoot up very much . It’s advisable to book tickets far early in case you are planning for a vacation / non official trips. In case of a long distance/out of India trips, you can even consider possibility of booking from nearby airports such as Chennai.

On a positive note, Bangalore Airport is already in due process of building a second runway. The completion date is however unclear at the moment.
