BlindList Trip – A Journey of a Lifetime

Not all journeys are planned. Some appear out of nowhere, take us to a completely unexpected destination and give us a life changing experience.  Sometimes even a fully planned trip wouldn’t give that joy and thrill of a surprise blind date trip.

Everyone has their fair share of bucket list places to see or live. Even a visit to your birthplace, which you haven’t been to, in a very long time could be a bucket list itself.  Sometimes the bucket list of places is all about a simple desire to visit a place after hearing so much about it in magazines, online or even in a movie.

End of the day, the place could just be one more item off your scratch map of the world. The thrill or excitement fades away once you are probably done with this city. The expectations finally meets reality and it ends up being one among your trip memories.

A Blind Date trip

Imagine a scenario where you have no clue of the destination and you embark on a journey. There are no expectations set nor an idea of what you might encounter. Every leg of the trip would be about discovering the nuances and figuring your way through the puzzle which makes it all the more fun.

My idea of a blind date trip is to go to a place that is quite the opposite of what I have been accustomed to. This place would speak a different language, doesn’t have any of my food preferences, practice an entirely different culture and the people and probably everything about the place would be world’s apart (quite literally). There’s nothing better than exploring a place which is quite alien to you and you slowly begin to discover your survival instincts and make better use of it .

As I write this post, I am packing my bags to an actual blind date trip. All along my life I have noticed that one in two products I saw had a “Made in China” tag. I wondered what makes this country so special? Why is everything exported from this country? The food in restaurants mostly serve Chinese dishes apart from Indian cuisine. Even my mobile phone is a Chinese brand. Yet China has remained a mystery to a lot of people. I now plan to unravel that mystery.

A lot of people advised me about the major language barriers and the lack of vegetarian food options. I felt this could be an ideal challenge for me. A trip to the Mainland of China, without the comfort of a guided tour is always the best way to see the city. I don’t even know a word of Chinese, while the locals there do not converse in English. This would test my non verbal communication and body language at it’s best. I might probably use this as a “Self Exploration” test to see how I can survive and adjust myself if placed in a completely alien land.

My blind date journey begins tomorrow.
